New Zealand Relay is a free, government-funded service that enables people with hearing and speech communication difficulties to use the phone. We provide services for people who are Deaf, deafblind, hard of hearing, and speech communication difficulties.
In 2004, the New Zealand Government set out to establish a national telecommunications relay service for the Deaf, hard of hearing, Deafblind, and speech communication difficulties communities of New Zealand. Such a service enables people in these communities to keep in touch by phone independently, without needing the assistance of friends or family.
The service is currently provided by Concentrix, a leading global provider of CX solutions and Technology, based in Auckland. Our New Zealand Relay contact centre operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
At Concentrix, NZ Relay is looked after by Operations and Account Manager, Vicky Matthews. She also is the key person liaising with the Ministry of Business, Innovation, and Employment (MBIE).
Supporting Vicky with the day-to-day running of NZ Relay are Team Leaders, Trainers, Promotions & Quality Lead, and Workforce Management, along with the Video Interpreters and Relay Agents who facilitate the services NZ Relay provides.
New Zealand Relay employs a combination of video interpreters who interpret between NZSL and English, and Relay Assistants who work rostered shifts to ensure our services are staffed at their operating times; plus support staff.
We offer a range of services to help each of the communities we support. You can find information on the services we offer on our Services page.
