If you use New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL), you can communicate with others over the phone with a Video Interpreter.

The Video Interpreter will interpret your signed message to your caller over the phone, in real-time. They will then sign your caller’s response back to you in NZSL.

You can access this service on your phone, tablet, or computer/laptop by using Skype, Zoom, or Microsoft Teams.

We recommend you book an Interpreter in advance to guarantee availability for your appointment.

Please do not use NZ Relay services to make emergency calls.

Book an Interpreter

Using a Video Interpreter keeps communication clear between NZSL users and English speakers during in-person meetings. Access qualified, experienced NZSL interpreters via Skype, Zoom and Microsoft Teams. All you need to do is make an appointment. To provide the most appropriate interpreter, it is preferred that your booking is made at least two business days prior to the appointment. NZSL video interpreters are available Monday to Friday between 8am - 8pm, Saturday 10am – 5pm and Sunday 12pm – 5pm.

  1. Fill in the online form, select a time slot and click on submit. Please include any meeting links.
  2. You will receive an email notification confirming if your booking has been accepted or declined.
  3. The Video Interpreter will call you on the requested date 5-10 minutes before the confirmed booking time to ensure you are all set up and ready for your call.
